ANG SAN MEI. SINGAPORE. Dimension Data, the USD $7.5 billion global ICT solutions and services provider, announced it has been engaged by Asia Commercial Bank (ACB), the largest private bank in Vietnam, to refresh its legacy infrastructure and improve workplace collaboration using a private cloud platform.

For its innovative solutions in providing real-time communication and social enterprise on a private cloud platform, ACB and Dimension Data were awarded Best Cloud-Based Project in Vietnam for 2016 at the 10th Asian Banker Technology Innovation Awards Programme on 10 May 2016.

ACB is one of the largest joint stock commercial banks in Vietnam. With a branch network system that spans the country and a team of nearly 9,000 employees, it offers a variety of products and services to the Vietnamese market.

With the goal of becoming the leading bank in Vietnam, ACB wanted to refresh its legacy IT infrastructure and equip its teams with the workplace solutions needed to support productivity and collaboration. However, as the financial industry is tightly regulated, ACB sought to enlist the help of an industry expert to help it achieve its business outcome.

Vietnam 2After a thorough evaluation process, Dimension Data was selected to undertake the project. The team held workshops to better identify ACB’s requirements and ensure all challenges and restrictions were addressed ahead of implementation. This focus on consultancy, combined with knowledge of the Vietnamese IT market, enabled Dimension Data to put forward a plan that balanced ACB’s needs with industry requirements and market conditions.

The Dimension Data team worked with ACB to migrate its existing legacy system to a Microsoft platform, while ensuring all solutions are cloud and hybrid ready, so that the bank can continue to stay ahead of the competition as the market develops. The new infrastructure also migrated emails from multiple platforms to a single platform with real-time communication capability to create a social enterprise on a public cloud platform. This enables employees to interact anywhere, anytime, on any devices.

The implementation embraces mobile, cloud, and social media technologies to improve work productivity and employee satisfaction. With mobile access to emails and group interactions, productivity has improved and the response time for approvals has significantly reduced. Currently, 20% of ACB staff are using a social media platform, 50% are using mobile access for Lync, and mobile access for mail.

The new platform also provides secure access with a single ID and an ability to scale in and out of the cloud freely. It facilitated increase in server uptime from 95% to 99.9% and scaled the server capacity utilisation. All customer-centric and sensitive data remain on-premise, while users have the flexibility of a hybrid cloud system.

“We have been constantly impressed by Dimension Data’s high degree of professionalism and the quality of its work. Its team has been able to deliver a full infrastructure refresh and provide our 9,000 employees with a range of innovative collaboration solutions. By taking the time to sit down and discuss our needs, they were able to come up with a solution that not only meets our current needs, but also a long term strategy that maps to our business ambitions,” comments Matthew Martin, Chief Information Officer, Asia Commercial Bank.

Neville Burdan, General Manager — End-user Computing, Dimension Data Asia Pacific adds, “We are very honoured that our project with ACB has been recognised and awarded by the Asian Banker for “Best Cloud-based” project in Vietnam. The project is an excellent showcase of our technology capabilities in combining local knowledge with global IT innovation. It has set a new industry benchmark in delivering real-time communication and social enterprise on a public cloud platform, while ensuring high system scalability and increased server uptime.”
